Vertical window awnings - exceptional window cover

« Back to blog

The word "awnings" in connection with window covering is usually associated with terrace awnings, the material of which, placed on a special frame, unfolds over the balcony or terrace to create a shaded space. It is a great solution for hot summer days.

Vertical window awnings are, however, a completely different type of covers; above all, unlike patio awnings, they are not covers that can only be used in the summer season. We use the advantages of vertical awnings all year round.

Vertical window awnings belong to the group of external covers and are mounted to the window or to the external lining recess. They can be used with windows made of PVC, aluminum or wood. The installation of vertical awnings is of particular importance in the case of large glazing, so fashionable in architecture today. Large windows or entire glazed walls are increasingly appearing in residential houses, buildings in public spaces and company headquarters. It creates a very nice external image of the building and illuminates the interior very well, making it full of light and space, even if it is not really big. However, large windows also have disadvantages, especially in summer the most heat gets through them, and in winter the most escapes. Vertical window awnings help to prevent this.

Advantages of vertical window awnings
In order to fully see the advantages of vertical window awnings, they can be divided into groups.

  • Protection against overheating. External covers are the most effective in preventing rooms from heating up because they are placed in front of the glass. In this way, they do not allow the sun's rays to come into contact with the glass surface of the window, and thus limit the heat inflow, creating an effective barrier for it. Without them, the building with large glazing would resemble an aquarium, and the temperature inside would be unbearable. This advantage is all the more important as nowadays high temperatures not only occur in summer, but also more and more often in spring and autumn.
  • Protection against heat loss. During colder months, the lowered vertical awning will effectively help to keep the heat inside (it lowers the permeability coefficient to 16%).
  • Economy. As vertical awnings are able to effectively protect interiors against the heat of summer, they will help to reduce expenses related to air conditioning. In winter, by preventing heat loss, they will reduce heating costs.
  • Natural light. The lowered vertical awning does not cut off the flow of natural light but diffuses it. At home or at work, you can use natural light, but without the unpleasant effect of sun exposure.
  • Protection against UV rays. The sun doesn't just increase the temperature. Its rays can cause the gradual fading of the colors of walls or objects in the home or company premises. A vertical awning will effectively prevent this.
  • Ensuring privacy. The lowered awning will not block the flow of natural light and visibility to the outside, but it will make the interior invisible from the outside.
  • Protection against insects. The vertical awning will prevent bothersome insects from entering the rooms despite the open windows.

Vertical window awnings in the Knall online store
The Knall store offers FAKRO vertical awnings in two systems: VMZ and VMB. The systems differ in that the VMB has a movable swing beam. Thanks to it, after unfolding the awning, we can tilt its lower part and have free access to the window sill. We control the VMZ system manually, electrically or electrically with a solar drive. The VMB system only electrically or electrically with solar drive.

Both systems are made of a special, durable and weather-resistant PVC-coated glass fiber fabric. The fabric is rolled on a shaft with a motor and placed in a cassette made of aluminum profiles. The zipper tape, which is embedded in the edges of the fabric, guarantees its tension between the guides and prevents it from falling out of the guides. This combination makes the fabric resistant to strong gusts of wind - up to 120 km / h (side wind up to 220 km / h).
